Religious Formation at St. Raphael Catholic School

We welcome children of all faiths to our classrooms. At St. Raphael’s we know that we are all God’s children and embrace the fact that we can work and learn together. As God’s children, we share a common goal to educate our youth to become good, moral people and our community’s future leaders – regardless of creed, color, or background.  Our school is home to a diverse student population. We believe that diversity in our school enhances the learning environment by creating a culture of mutual respect, which our students carry with them out into the world.

St. Raphael School is proud of their Religious Academics. We start our day with prayer, say grace before lunch and end the day with prayer. Every grade level has Religion Class as part of their daily schedule. Our curriculum is called “Alive in Christ” which prepares our students in the Catholic Doctrine tying the lesson to Bible scripture for each lesson. The teachers include God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit across the curriculum. The teachers attend Religious classes at Tepeyac and are required to have 150 hours of Religion classes. The students engage in many projects about our Catholic Religion, for example Saint Posters for All Saints Day and Posters during Catholic School Week.

Our second grade students are prepared to receive the Sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Eucharist. There is an altar in every classroom which is the focus of our Religion. The hallways and classrooms are also adorned with many sacramentals reminding us of the Holy Trinity, Our Blessed Mother and the Saints. 

Our students attend Mass every Friday unless there is a Holy Day of Obligation in which we will attend Mass on that day. Grade levels second to eighth are given the opportunity to lector, bring up the gifts and usher a Mass twice a year. The eighth grade students attend a special Mass in their honor as part of their graduation.

Every year the students from Pre-kindergarten to third grade present an Advent Program and the students from fourth grade to eighth grade present the Lenten Program. The fifth graders crown the Blessed Mother in May with one student from each grade level participating in this beautiful ceremony.

Our students participate in community service all during the year to help those in need. Each grade level will pick an organization and collect what is needed for that organization. We also have school wide community service.
